A Little Less, A Lot More: Beauty, Balance & Learning to Slow Down

I’m a little late with this blog post, but here we are!

Over the last couple of weeks, I’ve been focusing on something that I think we often forget about when life gets busy: taking care of ourselves, inside and out.

Between running a business, being a mom, managing a household, and keeping up with everyday life, it’s easy to put yourself at the bottom of the priority list. Lately, I’ve been making a conscious effort to change that.

Investing in Myself, Not Changing Myself

I’ve always believed that beauty should enhance what we naturally have, not completely change the way we look. Less is more, and that philosophy goes beyond the hair I create behind the chair.

Recently, I decided to focus a little more on my skin quality. I booked a microneedling appointment, a treatment that helps stimulate collagen production and improve skin texture over time. My goal isn’t to look 20 again. It’s to take care of the skin I have, keep it looking fresh, and age gracefully.

I also decided to try a lip flip instead of traditional lip filler. I’ve been noticing a shift toward more subtle, natural-looking enhancements, and that’s exactly what I wanted. Nothing dramatic, just a little something to bring back the appearance of fullness I remember having in my early 20s.

For me, it’s not about chasing youth or changing my face. It’s about feeling confident, refreshed, and comfortable in my own skin.

Doing Less, but Achieving More

Something else I’ve been thinking about lately is how much we expect ourselves to do.

As a business owner, I wear about a hundred different hats. I’m the hairstylist, receptionist, cleaner, inventory manager, social media creator, and the person answering emails at the end of a very long day.

And for the longest time, I thought doing everything myself was just part of being successful.

But I’m starting to realize that being successful doesn’t mean being exhausted.

Which brings me to some exciting news!

I’ve decided to bring someone into the salon to help me out. Her name is Natalia, and she’s wonderful!

Natalia will be assisting me with the day-to-day operations of the salon while also offering a selection of smaller beauty services herself.

I’m genuinely excited about this next chapter because it means I can focus more of my energy on what I love most: creating beautiful hair, connecting with my clients, and continuing to grow Bobbypin.

It also means learning to let go of the idea that I need to do absolutely everything myself.

Feeling Young Is More Than Just Looking Young

I think there’s something interesting about getting older. We spend so much time thinking about how to maintain our appearance, but what about maintaining our energy, happiness, and peace of mind?

You can invest in all the skincare treatments in the world, but if you’re constantly overwhelmed, stressed, and running on empty, eventually it catches up with you.

I’m learning that taking care of myself means more than booking a facial or going to the gym. It also means protecting my time, asking for help, creating boundaries, and giving myself permission to slow down.

I want to have energy for my children, my clients, my business, and, most importantly, myself.

And sometimes the smartest thing you can do for your personal life and your business is recognize when you need another set of hands.

My New Philosophy: Less, but Better

Less stress. More balance.

Less pressure to do everything. More room to do things well.

Less focus on changing how we look. More focus on taking care of what we already have.

I’m realizing that the secret to feeling young isn’t necessarily about looking younger. It’s about creating a life that doesn’t leave you feeling completely drained.

So here’s to healthier skin, subtle beauty enhancements, growing businesses, accepting help, and learning that we don’t have to do it all.

Because sometimes doing less is exactly how we achieve more.

With love,

Kirby
